Starting on July 1st, Starbucks is completely opening its wireless network. My take on this? Bad news. One of the things that made Starbucks a great place to work when I wanted to get out of the office was that the wireless connection was relatively fast because not everyone used it. I paid my $20 a month and felt like it was a good deal.
Opening the network will cause everyone with an iPhone to hog the connection by watching the latest Annoying Orange video. A more open network will also raise the odds of security problems.
Maybe I’m wrong, but I already got my Verizon Wireless modem and am prepared for the worst.
